Changes in character from previous game:

When she was in Genessia, a lot things were different from home. Everyone could see her and she could interact with everyone and everything, and her curse seemed to be more under control. Therefore her stay in Genessia gives her new hopes, hopes that things could take a different turn. In the absence of Makarov, she was reappointed Fairy Tail’s Guild Master (in deeds and not just as an honorary title). She was able to get closer to several Fairy Tail members. She got to see Zeira again, the real one. And Zeref was there. In my headcanon, she’s never gotten over him. They keep meeting over and over in the series and Zeref is even shown seeking her out in the forest. He’s her first true love in the romantic sense of the term. They have a lot in common: they’re both orphans, prodigies, bookworms, they love magic and are good at it, they’re the best strategists of their respective countries, they can’t bear the thought of losing people they care about, they both got cursed by the same God and they both became immortal when they were in their teens.

When she was in Amalgamate, Mavis found back a familiar setting: war. After all, that’s the way she’s always dealt best with her curse. Having to focus on war strategies is how she avoids to think directly about the value of life itself. And since Zeref was there too (as in the series, they keep on bumping into each other in the RP world), she even managed to convince him to play along with her and join the military. They also decided to move in together in order to limit possible casualties, but soon they started meeting in town together and those meetings started looking more and more like dates.

Mavis' main personality traits are unchanged but she tries to take a more active role in the life of her Guild, wants to get to know her guild mates better. She's also curious about the other 'universes' that exist out there and wishes to learn about their cultures and forms of Magic. Mavis is willing to give hers and Zeref's love story another chance. She's still hoping to meet real fairies and hasn't given up on finding the one magic.

Mavis, aka the Fairy Tactician, remains quite the mysterious character during the first part of Fairy Tail’s main story. She’s referred to as the ‘First’ (i.e. The First Master of Fairy Tail) and one of the greatest tacticians of Ishgar. She’s supposed to be dead, since the second trial to be promoted to Fairy Tail S-class mage is to find her grave on Tenrou Island. That said, her ‘ghost’ is not confined to the island, and Mavis regularly comes to Magnolia to give advice to the current Guild Master or to just cheer for her guild (like she does during the Grand Magic Games). However, only Fairy Tail members are able to see her.

Mavis’ life can be divided into three phases: her childhood on Tenrou Island, her quest to find the Tenrou Jade and the Founding of Fairy Tail, and the last part that could be referred to as the ‘post contradiction curse’ part.

Mavis was an orphan at a very early age, around 5 or 6. It could have broken her or made her bitter, but it’s not the case. Mavis is cheerful, faithful and smart. She doesn’t let things let her down, even when she was bullied or when her Master took back her only pair of shoes because of a small mistake she made, or when he burnt her book about fairies right in front of her. She refuses to cry because she believes that she won’t be able to see fairies if she does. It is never clearly stated why Mavis always so fascinated by fairies, but it’s no coincidence that the guild she later creates is called Fairy Tail. It’s also the way Yuri Dreyar initially managed to trick Mavis into playing a game on Tenrou Island: If she wins, he’ll show her a real fairy. Of course, at the time, Yuri never thought Mavis would actually win.

Her parents were obviously well-educated and skilled, most likely wizards from Red Lizard. They taught her how to read and some mathematics, and Mavis has had affinity for magic from a very young age. Once on her own, Mavis kept seeking knowledge, rehearsing what she’d been taught and trying to learn more on her own. She envies her Master’s daughter Zeira, because she has friends and can go to school. Being able to see the school and hoping that someday she’ll be able to go too seems enough to make her happy. When she finds herself living alone with Zeira on Tenrou Island, she spends seven years reading and sorting all the books she can find in Red Lizard’s library and she pretty much lives in the library. She teaches herself illusion magic, about wildlife and interestingly, about psychology. That explains why she immediately knows the best way to deal with people she meets and also why she is such a brilliant strategist. Whenever some topic was not treated in her books, she tries to learn it by herself (e.g. when she asks Yuri and Warrod to tell her more about boats and navigation).

Mavis has a very endearing personality. Ever since she was a child, she’s always naturally attracted people (and little animals too) with her bright smile, big green eyes and her genuine kindness. It is shown in the animated version of Fairy Tail that she helped a little creature that then started following her around and kept coming to see her until she actually left the island seven years later. Zeira’s schoolmates instantly tried to befriend Mavis when she’d just come to bring Zeira’s lunch and even Zeira eventually asks Mavis to become her friend as Mavis helps her run away from their hometown after it was raided by a Dark Guild called Blue Skull. Later on she manages to befriend the treasure hunters: Yuri, Warrod and Precht. Due to her knowledge, skills and sympathy, they progressively stop to see her as “an untrustworthy kid met on a desert island” to have her become a member of their group. In the end, they become the first members of Fairy Tail, with Mavis being their leader despite the fact she’s only 14 at most, at the time.

Mavis doesn’t let rumors or a cold demeanor deter her from befriending someone. She always gives people the benefit of doubt as long as they’re not trying to hurt people she cares about. She genuinely believes there’s good in all people which leads to the Black Wizard Zeref calling her naïve. Her story with Zeref is one of the best examples of that. She never actually saw him like the monster that most people believed him to be. The first time she saw him, the only thing she saw was how lonely he was. She even managed to cheer him up by creating an illusion just for him, so that he would be able to be around beings that he couldn’t accidentally kill with his curse. When she asked him to teach her and her friends magic, she even went as far as to declare she wanted to become a Black Wizard too. Indeed, Mavis doesn’t think that magic itself can be bad, it’s the way that you decide to use it that determines whether it’ll be good or not.

Being cursed crushed Mavis on many levels, and in a way she truly only is a ghost of her old self. Mavis had a heart of gold, she believed that she could help and save everyone if she really tried and she believed she could be a good friend to those she cared about and she believed in love. She was cursed with the ‘Contradiction Curse’ (same as Zeref) due to using an incomplete spell called ‘Law’ to save Yuri who’d been cursed by the Tenrou Jade. In my opinion, it is truly debatable why Ankhseram decided Mavis deserved to be cursed since all she did was to reverse a curse that turned her friend into a giant monster. The only explanation I see would be that Yuri was already virtually dead and so she kinda resurrected him (which is against Ankhseram’s will). But if it’s the case, that would mean that Mavis inadvertently managed, at 14 years old, something powerful Wizards like Zeref or Precht (after he became Hades) failed to find all their lives.

Mavis’ hardest moment is when Zeref broke it to her that she hadn’t just stopped aging (as she’d initially thought) but was actually cursed the same way he was. The thought she could inadvertently kill people she swore to protect was too much to bear. She fled, finding shelter in denial, pretty much the same way she’d denied the death of her very first friend Zeira back there in Tenrou Island. Mavis can’t stand being alone. She needs joy and love surrounding her. She even naturally attracts it. That’s why the curse is particularly hard on her, and maybe even a crueller fate than for Zeref (maybe). When she kills Yuri’s wife, she really tries to die by starving herself for months. Later on her path crosses Zeref’s once more. Mavis’ hopeful nature takes over again and even wins over the most pessimistic character of the whole series, Zeref himself. He falls in love with her, kisses her and… frees her. That’s the way I see it at least. It’s tragic but he did free Mavis from the side of the Curse she most feared. When Fairy Heart is created, she becomes a ghost-like being (an astral projection of herself), which means she can’t touch people and thus can’t harm them.

One century later, Mavis remains at heart the ever optimistic child she always was. She’s become more serious, stronger and wiser. She smiles less but she is not broken. Her old self is still here and she still reaches out for people like she used to, even Zeref. She knows what he’s going through, since she’s been there. She knows exactly why he wants to die but the little voice inside of her heart tells her that things do not have to end like that. Of course, she is not about to let him destroy mankind, but she wants to believe he’s still the man who wanted to go look for the One Magic with her. Mavis doesn’t hold any grudge against Zeref for killing her. They loved each other and no one should. She will never stop empathizing with Zeref, because she knows what the Contradiction Curse does to one’s mind, the way you have to contradict yourself to trick the curse and sometimes say or do things that are not quite what you really want. She knows how it is to just want it all to end; after all, he is the one she asked to kill her. When she floats over him, knowing he can’t see her and she can’t touch him, it seems they can still ‘feel’ each other.

Not much is said about the consequences it would have on Mavis to use 'Fairy Heart' but Makarov's reaction as he said that he couldn't 'find the courage to use it' suggests that she might die during the process. Mavis doesn't seem hesitant or afraid at all.

In conclusion, Mavis is a very happy, cheerful and endearing character. But because of all the hardships she had to face since her childhood, she is stronger and wiser than her youthful looks suggest. Being an immortal did not appear like a blessing at first but being the optimist that she is, Mavis is now ready to make the most of it. She will not hesitate to go out of her way to help someone in need, especially someone from her guild or someone who holds a special place in her heart. She can be over confident at times and because of that, she can lose battles. However she knows to learn from her mistakes and to rely on the strength of others to eventually win the war.

Powers/Abilities: Most can be found at http://fairytail.wikia.com/wiki/Mavis_Vermilion, but I detailed them below:

Illusion Magic: During her time at Tenrou Island, Mavis was self-taught Illusion Magic. Her illusions are so detailed that they appear to be truly life-like, and Mavis has used them on occasion to intimidate people, such as by creating fearsome beasts that look deadly such as the Heavenly wolf and summoning an army of knights

Fairy Glitter: Fairy Glitter is one of the Three Great Magics of Fairy Tail. It is a Magic that rivals Fairy Law and is a radiance of merciless light that rejects the presence of any foes. It is also an exceedingly complex and unfathomably intricate spell that collects and concentrates the light of the sun, the moon and the stars.

Fairy Sphere:Mavis used this spell by converting the Fairy Tail members' bonds and faith into Magic Power. It is a Magic that will protect the Guild from any evil; an absolute defense Magic. However, Fairy Sphere also acts as a stasis chamber, and anyone trapped inside will not age. It's powerful enough to protect Tenrou Island and everyone on it from Acnologia's Dragon's Roar, and to keep it sealed for seven years.

Fairy Law:The first of the Three Great Magics of Fairy Tail. Rivaling the power Fairy Glitter, this Magic emits a bright light that envelops the area and inflicts heavy damage on whoever the Caster perceives from their heart as an enemy, leaving friends and bystanders completely unharmed. After using Law, Mavis eventually modified and improved Law by removing its side effect whenever it is used, setting it as the basis for Fairy Law.

Black Arts: Mavis was taught of this style of Magic from Zeref, in which she first learned Law.

Law: This Magic emits a bright light that envelops the area and inflicts heavy damage on the caster's target.

Ankhseram Black Magic (contradiction curse):This black art is known for its' killing propensity, causing death to those the user holds precious to them and cares for deeply. This ability will only be used on NPCs or with other players' permission in the frame of a specific plot.

Flight: Mavis can fly at will, as well as walk on water.

Ethereal Abilities: Despite the fact that Mavis is deceased, she is able to talk with people who are still living. In addition, she can even create an Ethereal body at will that is visible and can cast Magic Spells. Despite being an Ethereal body, her bodily functions still seem to work. For the sake of allowing Mavis to get a broader CR and contrarily to what is stated in FT, everyone in Sol Raveh will be able to see and interact with Mavis, not only FT members.

Master Strategist: While not a Magical ability, Mavis has shown herself to be highly intellectual as she was able to memorize all the abilities of the participants, along with their fighting styles and patterns, and then run countless battle scenarios to come up with the most appropriate strategy for her guild, making at seems as if she was predicting the future, thus earning the alias - The Fairy Tactician. Mavis is also able to trust her 'soldiers' to take spontaneous decisions like when Natsu decides to go fight Zeref, which makes her a very good leader. Her only flow would be that she's very confident in her strategies, a bit too much at times. As long as things go as planned she can maintain a pretty convincing poker face, but she unable to hide her surprise or disappointment if something fails.

Items on your character: A hand mirror with Fairy Tail's mark on the back, a purple dress with pink straps.
